Stephon Raickett

Proverbs 18:16 (KJV) “A man's gift maketh room for him and bringeth him before great men.”

This will certainly be manifested in this extremely “Gifted Christian Comedians'” life.

Stephon Raickett (better known as Stephon the Christian Comedian) is a native Chicagoan. Born a preacher's kid, he learned at an early age how to see the “Funny” in everyday life situations. Life experiences has helped Stephon appreciate a “good joke” and the joy of making others laugh. He always knew (in one way or another) he would someday make a career out of helping people experiencing happiness even in the darkest circumstances.

Stephon began his entertainment career at an early age, performing in grammar school talent shows and continued throughout his high school years. In the fall of 1987, he received a scholarship in Theatre Technology from Kennedy-King College in Chicago, Illinois. By the spring of 1988 he made his first professional stage debut in theatre production “One Monkey Don't Stop No Show.” Instantly this thespian knew it was “Love at first sight.” It is that love (and great reviews) that opened the door for many other Productions. His theatrical resume includes productions: Stardust Review, The Wiz, Fences, The Color Museum and Chicago. It was Stephon Raickett Christian Comedian/Minister during his performance in hit stage play Chicago that caught the attention of “Internationally Known” Comedian/Actor Bernie Mac. Unknowingly to Stephon, Mack was in the audience and after the show approached him and encouraged him to pursue “Stand-Up Comedy.” By 1990, Stephon started performing at various “Comedy Clubs” first in Chicago then throughout Illinois area. In 1991, Stephon moved to California to pursue his dream of being an actor. His debut appearance was in film “Menace To Society.” Following that he was given the opportunity to worked “Behind the Scenes” in film production on many “Box-Office Hits.” It was then Stephon realized his “discomfort” with the ungodly relationships and lifestyles that many in the “Industry” offered (and indulged). That uneasiness soon sent him back to Chicago to reassess his future.

The bible says in Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” Stephon returned to what he knew and began to search for a relationship with God. In the summer of 1997, Stephon rededicated his life to Christ and began attending Triedstone Full Gospel Baptist Church (under the leadership of Bishop Simon Gordon). July 1998, Stephon accepted his call into the ministry and was licensed on New Year's Eve, 1999. During that time he served as Lead Servant over Triedstone's Singles and Men's ministries. His dedication to the work of the Lord makes him one of Triedstone's busiest men. Currently he is actively serving as Lead Servant of the Armour Bearer ministry and Bishop Gordon's personal Armour Bearer. In 2005, Stephon was elevated to the Director of Protocol for the State of Illinois under the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship International (under the leadership of presiding Bishop Paul S. Morton and State of Illinois Bishop Simon Gordon).

Still with a yearning for entertainment, Stephon added “Christian Comedy” to his arsenal and began pursuing gigs. Unexpectedly the requests started to immediately pour in. Stephon said, “I believe comedy is therapeutic. I want to make people laugh while giving God Glory.” Although Stephon’s performances had been in nightclubs and comedy clubs, he felt he needed to go where his ministry and audience needed him most . . . The Church. Therefore, he began to take his Comedy Ministry to churches and faith based venues throughout Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Georgia, Florida and Wisconsin. By January 2005, Stephon had ministered to over a hundred churches throughout the United States with his unique style of comedy leading the way.

As a preacher's kid Stephon had seen (and experienced) the many facets of our African American churches. Consequently he developed a unique style of comedy that deals directly with the realistic humor of church folks and our issues. Stephon’s comedy ranges from: the “Church Mothers” giving long testimonies and singing songs no one knows the words of, Deacons who wear outdated fashion and render lengthy Prayers, choirs that bring forth songs of praise with their own unique style, to Preachers that deliver sermons that come from the Movie of the Week. As Stephon delivers the jokes he admits and proclaims, “I Got Issues.” Then gives you an array of examples.

Stephon creates a clear example of what the “Bible” means when it says, “A merry heart doeth good like medicine.” Comedy and entertainment “Insiders” call him, “One of the most exciting and talented Christian comedians on the circuit today.” If you have seen him, certainly you are missing a treat. Stephon concludes, “A good man steps is ordered by the Lord. I am asking Gog to please continue to ‘Order’ mine.”
